MTE Office Center began in 1935 when Jack Tarpley opened Maryville Typewriter Exchange on East Third Street. His daughter Betty and her husband Jay Baker joined in 1946, expanding the business across Northwest Missouri. Their son Roger Baker modernized operations in 1980 — adding computers, IT services, and the MTE Office Center name. Today, Roger’s daughter Elizabeth Christiansen carries the legacy forward as Vice President.
